Alan Peppard -- The Dallas Morning News

Before the June 23 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game, there will be a 5 p.m. Home Run Derby where the famous players will try to put the ball over the back wall.

Friday morning on KSCS-FM (96.3), game veteran Mike Modano advised that not every celeb is a potential Roy Hobbs.

"It's more like a Ground Ball Derby," he joked.

But Mr. Modano has won the home run contest as has Mr. Cuban's sometime partner, film titan Todd Wagner, and Sex and the City hunk Jason Lewis (a.k.a. Samantha's boy toy, Smith).

Among the amusing visuals should be 6-foot-6 Maverick Jerry Stackhouse at the plate.

Proceeds from the Celebrity Heroes game go to kids' after-school athletic leagues through the Heroes Foundation as well as programs of the Mike Modano Foundation.

Speaking of Mr. Modano, he is playing in the game, and his fiancée, Willa Ford, is singing the national anthem. It will be a rare chance for the public to get a look at the couple that is generating so much chatter.

Tickets are $5 to $15 and available at ticketmaster.com or 214-373-8000.
